The material decision that changes the whole rental

Clean Fill vs Mixed Waste: What Goes in Each Bin?

The same container can require a completely different disposal plan depending on what goes inside it. Separating dense clean material from mixed renovation debris is one of the simplest ways to avoid contamination, rejected loads and unexpected costs.

Quick answer

Clean fill is one approved dense stream; mixed waste combines general debris

Clean fill usually means a confirmed, uncontaminated material such as concrete, brick, asphalt, gravel or soil handled in its own load. Mixed waste is a broader non-hazardous stream such as wood, drywall, flooring, cabinets and household cleanup material. The exact accepted combination must be confirmed before delivery.

Clean fill

Purity matters more than appearance

A load can look like concrete while still containing wood, plastic, insulation, drywall or garbage. Those small additions may prevent it from following the intended clean-fill stream.

Ask whether the planned load is concrete only, soil only, asphalt only or another approved combination. Never assume that all heavy materials belong together. Different facilities and projects can require different separation.

  • Concrete without mixed renovation debris.
  • Soil described accurately and free from visible garbage.
  • Asphalt kept apart when a separate stream is required.
  • Brick, stone or gravel only after confirmation.

Mixed waste

Use mixed debris for ordinary renovation volume

Mixed renovation work commonly produces lumber, drywall, flooring, cabinets, trim, packaging and non-hazardous fixtures. These materials vary in shape and weight, so the bin is selected by both volume and density.

Mixed does not mean unrestricted. Hazardous, liquid, medical, pressurized or otherwise prohibited items remain outside the container. Appliances and electronics should be disclosed because they may need a different route.

  • Wood, trim and cabinetry.
  • Drywall, plaster and non-hazardous wall material.
  • Flooring and carefully contained broken tile.
  • Furniture and general cleanout material after confirmation.

Contamination

One wrong item can change the load

Contamination creates more than a sorting inconvenience. It can change the receiving facility, require extra handling or prevent a clean load from being accepted as planned.

Set up separate piles before demolition begins. Label the clean-fill pile, the mixed-debris pile, reusable material and special-disposal items. A few minutes of site organization is cheaper than separating material from a full bin.

  • Brief everyone working on the site.
  • Keep the bin door closed when the site is unattended if instructed.
  • Do not let neighbours or other trades add unknown material.
  • Photograph the load before pickup when material purity matters.

Quote accuracy

Send a material list with the quote request

The current $599 offer applies to general debris with 1,000 kg and 10 days included. Heavy fill has separate pricing and loading requirements. A quote that starts with “concrete, soil and some renovation waste” needs clarification before it can be reliable.

List the materials in order from greatest to least amount. Add project photos and explain whether demolition has already begun. The dispatcher can then recommend separation, a bin type or a different disposal approach.

  • Project type and city.
  • Estimated amount of each material.
  • Whether the material is already mixed.
  • Preferred delivery and pickup dates.

Questions customers ask

Frequently asked questions

Is concrete considered clean fill?

Concrete may qualify for a dedicated clean or heavy-material stream when it is kept free of unrelated debris. Confirm the exact load before booking.

Can soil and concrete be mixed?

Do not mix them without approval. The materials may require separate loads or different pricing.

Does mixed waste include hazardous material?

No. Paint, chemicals, batteries, propane cylinders, liquids, asbestos and other hazardous materials require separate handling.
